We are pleased to announce that, effective June 2026, our organisation's registered name was officially changed from Beautiful Life Training and Community Development Association to Beautiful Life Community Development Foundation.
This was an administrative name change only and does not affect our mission, services, leadership, or commitment to the communities we serve. We remain dedicated to empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building resilient communities through our programmes and services.
Thank you for your faithful support as we continue this journey under our new registered name.

Thank you so much for your generous donation of Easter snacks for our holiday programme on Thursday 2 April 2026. The children were delighted with the treats, and most opted to take the bags home, while a few were too excited for that and asked if they could enjoy it immediately. Other than the children’s excitement, your donation made a meaningful difference to several families – one mother approached me and quietly said that she had not been able to provide her children with any of the traditional easter snacks until we had “come to the rescue”.

Hello Beautiful Life Family!
I trust you are doing well and enjoying Summer or Winter, depending on which part of the world you are joining us from! The time has flown this year, it’s almost Christmas! So much has happened over the past few months.
We shared our news updates on our social media to keep you informed, but if you’ve been out of touch, I’ll try to look back and report on our community outreach. I’ll also share our plans for the next few weeks leading up to Christmas.
Before we kick off, I would like to thank all our faithful donors for supporting our community outreach programs for children and unemployed parents, as well as caring for the elderly living in low-resource settings in the broader Cape Town region.

Community Collaboration with Santa’s Shoe Box Project
I am excited to share that Beautiful Life Training and Community Development, in collaboration with the Santa’s Shoe Box Project, will be sharing the Joy this Christmas with the learners at Bokmakierie Primary School, a low-resource school on the outskirts of Cape Town. On 13 November 2025, the learners received a gift box packed with Christmas treats and school supplies for next year, 2026. It’s best to follow us on our social media for pictures of the Christmas Share Joy visit in the next few weeks, leading up to Christmas.

A recent study conducted in the Western Cape revealed that approximately 41% of the Western Cape’s population experienced food insecurity. A significant concern is the high rate of child stunting, which affects about 28.8% of children under five nationally and has shown an increase in severe cases of stunting due to malnutrition.
We need your help to achieve our goal of feeding 250 families on the Cape Flats this Christmas Season!

Beautiful Life: Spreading Love and Warmth This Winter
Dear Beautiful Life Family,
Can you believe it’s already July? We’re in the heart of Winter! For many children and families living on the Cape Flats in South Africa, it is the most difficult time of the year, due to the cold and stormy weather.
Team Beautiful Life has been very active building new partnerships and recruiting new volunteers, and fundraising in shopping malls over the past few months. Come rain or shine, you might have spotted our Director, Wendy, out there! Together, we are spreading the love across Cape Town and reaching out to our global network.
We are excited to introduce our new team member, Lerato Maimela, a BA Social Sciences student at UCT, on her way to becoming a Psychologist!
Lerato has created a fundraising campaign on GivenGain to raise funds during Mandela Month, July 2025. Her goal is to raise Three Thousand Rand (R3000.00) to provide much-needed lunch packs and story books for children in South Africa.
A recent study showed that 40% of primary school children are unable to read with understanding. Lerato needs your help to reach her goal!

Our Care for the Elderly Project
Our office has received many requests for food and help due to the cold, winter rains, and stormy weather. Children and families have been displaced and are in dire need of food and warm clothing. Furthermore, senior citizens have also been badly affected due to insufficient funds and non-payment of SASSA pensions.
Mrs VP reached out to Beautiful Life on our Facebook page, requesting help with groceries for her and her housemates, who are all aged over 60 years and in dire need of a meal.
Thanks to our faithful donors, we were able to respond and gift the family with a grocery hamper.

Beautiful Life is Spreading the Love in 2025
During the months of February and March 2025, Team Beautiful Life has been very active in building new partnerships and recruiting new volunteers.
Many thanks to our French volunteer Lucille Taffara, who introduced Tom Brun, her fellow countryman, to Beautiful Life TCDA during his time in Cape Town. Together, they organised a creative art class for the children at one of our schools in the Athlone area. They generously donated all the art equipment required for the lesson. The children made beautiful necklaces from seashells, which they painted and could take home to show off their artwork. This lesson was both an exercise in creativity and learning about concepts such as colour coordination and learning to use natural resources to make something beautiful. The children were beaming with pride when they went home from school with their handmade jewellery!

Inside Stories of our Children, Mothers and Grannies Living Below the Breadline
Beautiful Life, in collaboration with the Athlone Advice Office and Mr Bernard Herinckx, a photographer from Belgium, hosted an open day at the Athlone Advice Office. The team engaged in a township visit in the broader Athlone area to record the lived experiences of community members on the Cape Flats to create a documentary, which is now in the making! A vote of thanks to Mr Bernard for his financial contribution towards the event to improve the lives of those living below the breadline.
Today, we are sharing some of the stories to give you some insight into the reality of the disparity between the rich and the disadvantaged in our country.

Pensioners’ Stories (Government Grant Recipients)
Mrs A, a granny, lives in a small 2-bedroom council cottage in Bridgetown, Athlone. She shares her little cottage with her sister, aged over 50 years, along with 4 children. They rely on the grandmother’s government pension grant of R2300 per month and have no other source of income. Their water supply is on a dripping system, due to non-payment. On most days, their electricity is off because they cannot afford to buy electricity. There are days when there is nothing to eat, and they are forced to go door-knocking for a loan until pension day to buy food. The sister is over the age of 50 but not able to receive government funding because the pensionable age in South Africa is 60 years of age. So, as you may or may not know, it is virtually impossible to secure a job at age 50 in South Africa.
The children in the household are going to school in the area but often there is no bread for school. This brings us to the place where we asked Mrs A how they survive. She shared that thanks to the kind support of the neighbours and the local community, they have not gone hungry. In positive news, after hearing their story, and thanks to our generous donors, we were able to bless these ladies with food vouchers to help #stophunger. The family has been added to our list of beneficiaries and referred to the Athlone Advice Office for advocacy assistance and further support.

Aunty in Bokmakierie Township’s Story
Aunty says she lives in the quiet side of Bokmakierie, Athlone, a very densely populated township on the outskirts of Cape Town. According to her, the area is dangerous, but if the people in the area know you, it is fairly safe. Team Beautiful Life visited the area along with a resident from the area, because naturally we were rather nervous to visit the area on our own. Aunty says it is quiet in her street, except for one teenager who causes trouble sometimes. She jokingly shows us her phone, which she says she says nobody wants because it’s worth nothing much, but is important to her to be able to call her family. The area has a high unemployment rate, and sadly, many people resort to drug abuse and crime. She has been living in the area for over 40 years, and the community respects her.
She mentioned that her daughter and her children live with her, but she is unemployed and they rely on her government pension and the pension of the old man who lives in the backyard in a Wendy house (informal wooden house). But she says, thanks be God, she has not gone hungry, and her church community has been very supportive. Can you imagine living off the government grant of R2200 each month? This is the reality of our senior citizens in Cape Town. What an amazing story of resilience in the face of adversity. As a small gesture of appreciation for sharing her story, we gifted the family with a food voucher and have added her name to our beneficiary list for support.

The Easter Story: The Story of Easter lives on in 2025
Easter is a time of celebration and joy for many people around the world. However, there is more to this special time than chocolate egg hunts and hot cross buns. The story of Easter carries a significant message in the Christian faith, one from which we can all learn. The following is a simple and engaging version of the Easter story, which we can easily share with our children and loved ones.
Jesus Christ taught people about the power and love of his Father, our God. He attracted many believers and followers. The leader of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate, saw this as a threat. Pilate ordered the death of Jesus, and he was nailed to a cross in front of a crowd to scare them into stopping their support for Jesus. Jesus died so that all of mankind’s sins would be forgiven.
Jesus’s followers buried his body in a tomb. They rolled a large stone over it to keep his body safe. After three days, Jesus’s friend, Mary Magdalene, found that the tomb was open and the body missing. An angel appeared to her and told her that Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus Himself then appeared, showing his followers the holes in his hands from the nails to prove that it was truly Him. Jesus rose from the dead! He told His followers of His Father’s eternal love for His people, and then ascended into Heaven. Jesus is alive and interceding on our behalf to God, our Father.
This story reminds us that there is life, even after death. Jesus Christ will always be present in our hearts. It is in His spirit that we celebrate rebirth and resurrection this Easter. The eggs at Easter time represent a fresh beginning. Even after the darkest of times, God gives us the strength to find a new start.

A recent study conducted in South Africa found that 78% of Grade 4 learners in South Africa cannot read for basic meaning in any national language. In other words, eight out of every ten, nine-year-olds in South Africa are currently functionally illiterate.

After the difficult school year (You may recall the storm and floods we experienced in July, 2024 in the Western Cape, where hundreds of children and families lost their homes and were displaced). Hello Beautiful Life Family!
Trust you all are doing well and having a good start to the New Year! Before we kick off with this year’s plans let me thank all our faithful donors for supporting our Christmas Share-A-thon during December 2023 and our Back-to-School Campaign which will run throughout the first term of school this year.
With your help we were able to bless several families with a Christmas Hamper. We partnered with the volunteers from the St Vincent de Paul Society, Bridgetown and the Hillsong Africa Foundation, Cape Town together we made a difference in the lives of families in need during the Festive Season.

Our Send a Child to School with Pride & Joy campaign started in January 2024 and due to the high demand for school uniforms and shoes we are continuing to raise funds for children in need during this term.

With your help, Beautiful Life TCD has been able to partner with many families in need of support during these difficult times as a result of the economic climate and high level of unemployment in Cape Town, South Africa.
Many thanks to our volunteers who worked tirelessly to raise funds and assist with admin and marketing throughout the year.

Congratulations! to one of our faithful volunteers, Gisele La Vita who graduated in March,2023 with a Doctorate in Law at Stellenbosch University. We are super proud of her achievements, Gisele will be offering her voluntary services in the area of community advocacy and publicity online. We wish her success in all her endeavours.

During the month of February, the month of love, we hosted our “Share The Love” campaign for single parents and children in need.
We were able to bless several families on the Cape Flats who are unemployed and in dire need, with a meal voucher, thanks to your financial contributions. We could not have done it without your support.
Team Beautiful Life distributed Food Love Buckets in the Cape Flats on Mother’s Day to honor motherhood.
In May 2023, we ran our Mother’s Day Share-a-thon for single parents and grandmothers in need of a meal. A study conducted at schools on the Cape Flats found that 1 in 4 children are raised by a single mother or grandmother. We distributed Food Love Buckets for Mother’s Day.
On 1 June 2023 we celebrated Global Parents Day! During this month we are hosting parenting workshops based on a research study conducted under the supervision of Stellenbosch University, by Wendy La Vita, Research Psychologist, on the topic, “The relationship between parenting style and prosocial behaviour of preadolescents in a South African context.

“Spread the Joy”: The Story of Easter lives on in 2022/23

Easter Newsletter
Easter is a time of celebration and joy for many people around the world. However, there is more to this special time than chocolate egg hunts and hot cross buns. The story of Easter carries a significant message in the Christian faith, one from which we can all learn. The following is a simple and engaging version of the Easter story which we can easily share with our children and loved ones.
Jesus Christ taught people about the power and love of his Father, our God. He attracted many believers and followers. The leader of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate, saw this as a threat. Pilate ordered the death of Jesus, and he was nailed to a cross in front of a crowd to scare them into stopping their support for Jesus. Before he died, Jesus forgave all of mankind for our sins.
Jesus’s followers buried his body in a tomb. They rolled a large stone over it to keep his body safe. After three days, Jesus’s friend, Mary Magdalene, found that the tomb was open and the body missing. An angel appeared to her and told her that Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus himself then appeared, showing his followers the holes in his hands from the nails to prove it was truly him. Jesus rose from the dead! He told his followers of his Father’s eternal love for his people, and then ascended into Heaven. Jesus is alive and interceding on our behalf to the God our father.
This story reminds us that there is life, even after death. Jesus Christ will always be present in our hearts. It is in his spirit that we celebrate rebirth and resurrection. The eggs at Easter time represent a fresh beginning. Even after the darkest of times, God gives us the strength to find a new start.

Community Outreach During 2022
We partnered with Hillsong Africa Foundation, Radio CCFM, Focus on the Family Africa, Christianity Works and together with your financial support we were able to provide social, counselling and spiritual support to families across South Africa.
Additionally, we were able to provide lunch packs, school uniforms and shoes for children in townships in Cape Town. I am delighted to share that we have broadened our outreach to include school children in the Krommerivier community on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.
With your help we have been able to bless a number of families during the year with a meal voucher. However, the demand for food and basic supplies is much greater than our resources to sustain the ever-increasing number of children, families and elderly, who are hungry due to the economic pressures faced as a result of high unemployment which has had a devastating effect on the already disadvantaged communities in South Africa. We are therefore appealing to you to bless a family this Christmas Season with a meal to sustain them during the long school holidays.

“Spread the Joy”: The Story of Easter lives on in 2022

Easter is a time of celebration and joy for many people around the world. However, there is more to this special time than chocolate egg hunts and hot cross buns. The story of Easter carries a significant message in the Christian faith, one from which we can all learn. The following is a simple and engaging version of the Easter story which we can easily share with our children and loved ones.
Jesus Christ taught people about the power and love of his Father, our God. He attracted many believers and followers. The leader of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate, saw this as a threat. Pilate ordered the death of Jesus, and he was nailed to a cross in front of a crowd to scare them into stopping their support for Jesus. Before he died, Jesus forgave all of mankind for our sins.
Jesus’s followers buried his body in a tomb. They rolled a large stone over it to keep his body safe. After three days, Jesus’s friend, Mary Magdalene, found that the tomb was open and the body missing. An angel appeared to her and told her that Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus himself then appeared, showing his followers the holes in his hands from the nails to prove it was truly him. Jesus rose from the dead! He told his followers of his Father’s eternal love for his people, and then ascended into Heaven. Jesus is alive and interceding on our behalf to the God our father.
This story reminds us that there is life, even after death. Jesus Christ will always be present in our hearts. It is in his spirit that we celebrate rebirth and resurrection. The eggs at Easter time represent a fresh beginning. Even after the darkest of times, God gives us the strength to find a new start.

Beautiful Life TCD is celebrating its birthday on the 22nd of March this year. For 12 impactful years, Beautiful Life TCD has been serving families and communities in Cape Town. For our birthday, we ask that you help us continue to help others. Many children and families in the Cape Flats are living in impoverishment, and will go hungry this Easter season.
Each of us has been given their own slice from the cake of life. Let us all look at our slices and reflect on what we have. Some of us have bigger slices, with access to secure housing, good education and job opportunities. Others have smaller slices, where one meal a day is a tough find.

She has a strong background in Journalism and enjoys blogging and is currently studying towards a Masters Degree in Psychology. Josie will be offering her services as a volunteer in the areas of counselling and communications. We look forward to working alongside her!
We bid Farewell To our team members: Cydney, Marette and Bronwyn who have completed their journey as students and have found full time employment. Unfortunately, they will not be able to offer their time as volunteers any longer.
